Does a Piano Tuner need to Play Well?

You don't need to be a great player in order to tune a piano. However; in order to understand how an instrument should feel or to understand the tonal possibilities...

Yes; I believe that a good Piano Technician should also be a reasonably accomplished musician. There is no other way to truly assess the overall condition of the piano from a player's perspective. This doesn't mean that a Technician needs to be able to effortlessly blow through a Rachmaninov concerto. But they should play well enough to understand the needs of a pianist - whether professional or someone who plays just for the love of it. This is me playing the beautiful Kawai RX-7 in the Summerlin Public Library Performance Hall The tune is "I'll Never Stop Loving You" by Nicholas Brodzsky and Sammy Cahn
